It is my pleasure to invite you to the 23rd Spanish Coffee Congress, organised by the Spanish Coffee Federation, which will take place from May 29 to 31, 2008 at the Barcelona’s World Trade Centre.

Since 1996 The Spanish Congress has become a not to be missed appointment for the coffee industry. On this occasion, we have the honour of hosting the European Coffee Federation’s General Assembly, which will bring it to an international level, with visitors from throughout Europe. Therefore, the Congress will offer attendants a unique opportunity to exchange information and identify the latest trends shaping the future of the coffee industry, while serving as the perfect platform to strengthen business contacts and ties with colleagues from the Spanish and European industry.

In addition to this city’s cosmopolitan and Mediterranean appeal, the choice of Barcelona coincides with NYBOT’s appointment of the Port of Barcelona as delivery port, both for its Arabica and Robusta future contracts, applying to the March 2008 delivery month and all delivery months listed thereafter. As a consequence, Barcelona will become the only Mediterranean NYBOT and LIFFE port.

The Spanish Coffee Federation has tenaciously defended this international candidacy, and we take this opportunity to congratulate all those that made it possible. Additionally, we would like to express our support to the major extension project of the Port of Barcelona’s terminals, which by the end of 2009, will double its current capacity.

Both factors shall turn the Port of Barcelona into a world-class reference for the coffee industry.
